Technician, Electrical Maintenance – Smelter

Job Purpose

To perform a wide range of duties relating to the electrical installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery, equipment and fixtures to ensure their efficient operation at minimum downtime complying with EHS Guidelines with a focus on continuous improvement

Key Accountabilities
  • Attends to all electrical equipment breakdowns such as LV-MV motors, LV Switchboards, MCCs, Plant lightings, Transformers, UPS, VFD, Breakers, Soft starter, etc. In addition, carries out planned/preventive/predictive maintenance work with minimum direction and supervision.
  • Identifies and reports any abnormalities. Repairs and /or replaces required items and re-assembles and tests the equipment, leaving the working area clean.
  • Technically assesses the requirement of allocated jobs and selects the necessary tools and equipment to complete such work.
  • Effectively diagnoses electrical breakdowns/failures & troubleshoots electrical failures of plant and equipment with (minimum or) no direction.
  • Using the computerized maintenance system (SAP), orders the spare parts from warehouse and maintains records of all maintenance work completed.
  • Ensures that all maintenance work is carried out in accordance with the safety procedures and plant operational requirements.
  • Monitors any repeated breakdown and recommends proper modification to resolve the problem.
Qualifications: Degree within the same field
Experience Required: 3 – 8 years’ in similar role
Job Specific Skills

A good knowledge of written and spoken English. Must be familiar with all maintenance tools and should have good IT knowledge. Experience in installation & troubleshooting. Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings/manuals/instructions

Instrumentation Technician

Job Purpose

Trouble-shoot, repair, re-commission and maintain efficiently field instrumentation for gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, and desalination plant and its auxiliaries to ensure efficient operation and reduce equipment availability down time.

Key Accountabilities

1. Attend to Power and Desalination plant field instrumentation breakdowns and planned maintenance work with minimum direction and supervision.

2. Technically assess the requirement of the allocated jobs and select the necessary tools and equipment to complete such work.

3. Using the computerized maintenance system, orders the spare parts from the warehouse and maintains records of all maintenance work completed.

4. Ensure that all maintenance work is carried out in accordance with the safety procedures and plant operational requirements.

5. Report repeated breakdowns and assist in RCFA to identify an optimum solution to resolve the problem.

6. Provide on the job training to new craftsmen in order to equip them with the necessary skills to be able to carry out maintenance repair work as planned.

Qualifications: Bachelor / Diploma in Instrumentation Field or Communications.
Experience Required: Knowledge and experience required for the position are gained through previous experiences in the following industries:

– Aluminium Smelters.

– Steel Smelters.

– Power Plants.

Job Specific Skills

– Good understanding of different maintenance types and procedures.

Manager – Bauxite Residue R&D, Engineering

Job Purpose

The function of the Manager, Bauxite Residue R&D Engineering is to provide definition,

direction and leadership for Technology Development projects to FEL 1/2 readiness,
for the productive utilization of Bauxite residue from EGA’s Al Taweelah Alumina Refinery (ATA).

Key Accountabilities

Policies, Processes & Procedures

-In addition to existing EGA polices and standards, develops, oversees and supports the

implementation of functional policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering
the preparation, treatment and application of BxR for productive use(s), so that all relevant
procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a
consistent manner.
-Prepares and recommends budget items for project engineering development within the
BxR Research & Development Group by analysing and collating/organizing all relevant
data related to specific elements as directed, and contributing to business case
development;-Monitors the financial performance of the project engineering development
function in the BxR Research & Development Group against budgets so that areas of unsatisfactory
performance are (i) identified and rectified promptly and (ii) potential performance improvement
opportunities are capitalized upon in a timely fashion.Research & Development Key Accountabilities

-Supports the Director, Bauxite Residue R&D in conducting research and development of

BxR solutions with the intention of obtaining a zero landfill outcome for all of ATA’s BxR
production, in collaboration with EGA’s ATA refinery.
-Directs and project manages the FEL1, 2 (and where appropriate, FEL3) phases of capital
projects and leads in the management of the study schedule, cost and scope to deliver the
project’s scope of work in accordance with the approved business objectives.
-Monitor the development of projects to ensure that deviations from the study plan are adequately
managed and communicated.
-Manage project development in compliance with internal and external governance processes and
EGA performance requirements.
-Lead the identification and management of project risk, communicating risks to relevant stakeholders
and identifying and implementing mitigation plans.
-Lead stakeholder engagement and ensure stakeholders are aligned throughout the course of the study
through timely communication.

-Establish and implement project development system and processes that ensure all valid investment

alternatives are identified and optimised to realise maximum value.

-Manage the project through the development life cycle to FEL 2, preparing appropriately for all gate

releases and funding requirements.

Qualifications

§ B.Eng / MSc / PhD in Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry or related discipline from a recognized

academic institution/ university§  Post-graduate business/finance qualifications are advantageous

Experience Required

§ 10+ years experience in major capital studies and projects in mineral processing, chemical

engineering or civil works.
§ 10+ years experience in the alumina industry, including production, technical management
and/or project management roles with a track record of project delivery.
§ Significant prior experience in the management of research activities and/or research groups
in alumina refining R&D involving setting up collaborations with industries, and universities/
research providers.

Engineer II – Bauxite Residue R&D

Job Purpose

The function of the Engineer II – Bauxite Residue R&D is to contribute to the technical and

financial evaluation, design and implementation of processes and procedures for the utilization
of Bauxite Residue (BxR) from EGA’s Al Taweelah Alumina (ATA) refinery, in compliance with local,
federal and international standards, and consistent with EGA’s Bauxite Residue Use Roadmap.

Key Accountabilities

§Liaises with technology providers, equipment suppliers, local and international research organisations

and regulatory bodies to ensure viable, compliant opportunities for the use of BxR are identified and
developed to commercial readiness;§ Assists in the technical interpretation of R&D project reports and results;

§ Develops models to simulate the behaviour of new or modified unit operations in the ATA refinery.

Engages with specialist refinery modellers to demonstrate the impacts of these processes on overall
refinery behaviour and the effect on residue properties;
§ Develops functional specifications and scopes of work for engineering providers to perform concept
level studies of new processes;§ Assists in the design and operation of pilot trials of technologies for BxR utilisation;

§ May be required to oversee operators or technicians during pilot or field trials, and provide training

for these temporary staff;
§ Keeps abreast of technological developments by attending technical seminars, symposia, and reading

specialized technical publications so that the company remains competitive by using best ideas / practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a Metallurgy/Material Science/Engineering discipline from a recognized institution

/ university.

Experience Required

§        One (1) years’ relevant work experience in a research environment related to alumina or 

aluminium production;

§Working familiarity with alumina refining technology and of bauxite residue management.
